Pre Miyajima Breakfast #1

We planned to eat breakfast before leaving Hiroshima for the day today.  We were unsuccessful in doing so, and remembered why we loved biking around downtown.  Parking is no-joke, and most of the time for us, just not worth it.  After a couple of attempts at breakfast we decided to go ahead and head out of the city and find somewhere to stop along the way.

Before we get there, however, lets cover two of these attempts -

We stopped, parked, and were seated at a nearby Joyfull restaurant.  Parking was a challenge, but we read through the instructions, and were confident we were good to go.

We were eating upstairs at Joyfull, so no need to worry about paying for parking!     And we know what to do with the button that calls the server to come take our order.  We've got this!

After being seated and reviewing the menu, we rethought our plans and returned to find that our car had not yet been locked into place!  YAY!  So we began to plot our next destination.  While doing so ... we heard a thunk and exited the vehicle to realize we'd delayed too long.  We had to pay for our time in the spot before being released to safely drive away.  .

Our second noteworthy attempt at breakfast before leaving Hiroshima was further downtown near the Atomic Dome ... we found our goal restaurant, realized we'd have to seek out street or garage parking and just decided "nah!".

We drove about 10 miles away from Hiroshima and arrived at the ferry station which would take us to the island of Miyajima later in the day.  Rather than park multiple times and worry about more travel time, we went ahead and parked where we knew we'd be later in the day and walked from there.  Wifey chose a restaurant, Ueno, off google at random and off we walked following google maps.

We went inside, but couldn't quite tell if we just needed to wait a few minutes for them to open, or if we should put our names (HA, like anyone can understand us) on a list?  We noticed quite a few Japanese folks sitting around waiting so we did the same until we saw a new couple come in and evidently have their name added to a wait list.  We attempted to follow suit ... and were asked by the attendant if Eel was ok.  We smiled and nodded, and were given a little #2 token.

Within a few minutes, another server began calling names (we determined by context).  When it was our turn, she called #2 in Japanese several times to no avail,  and then we heard "Number two".  We stepped forward with our token and were seated!  Success!

A server brought us green tea, and place settings of sorts, and then left us alone.  With no button to push!

Our neighbors were being helped, but not us.  Until a server showed up with an English 'menu'.  Apparently we chose a restaurant that only serves one dish and you get to choose which size you want.  We chose one large dish and hoped for the best!  (now we understand why the hostess asked us about Eel.  Its all they serve)

A while later, our food arrived.  It was amazing.  Expensive, but amazing.  If not for the 'expensive' part, we'd easily have ordered a second large serving.  Seriously, THAT GOOD!
