After our hectic morning of flying into Naples and checking into our AirBNB, we set out for Pompeii. Luckily, it is open until 7:00 with the last entry at 6:00; meaning we still had time to visit despite Naples being a bit of a disaster. The ancient city of Pompeii is immediately next door to and surrounded by the modern city. Like most modern cities, parking was a challenge, as was finding the entrance. We finally were parked and ready to begin our exploration around 3:00 pm.
We initially walked into the ruins and Wifey got a bit overwhelmed. It's a labyrinth inside and we didn't have maps and being overseas, couldn't just google it like we would in the States. There was quite a walk from the ticket entrance (where supposedly the maps were) and when you really entered the ruins and we were on a schedule. With Hubby's encouragement, however, we made the walk back, and reentered following the suggested tour for 2-3 hours. There are multiple suggested routes depending on how long you have available. We saw a LOT of old buildings and statues and pieces of artwork.
I believe this is an old sauna/meeting place.

When the volcano that destroyed Pompeii erupted, it buried many people and animals thus preserving the times of their death where normally bodies would have been destroyed by time.
