Papakōlea (Green Sand Beach)

Similar to our visit to the Waipio Valley, visiting the Papakolea Beach is a couple hours of hard work, to reach an out of the way slice of paradise.  Wifey expected this to be a bit easier, since the hike was 'mostly level'.  The perks of 'mostly level' were somewhat over-shadowed by 'full-sun exposure'.  We drove an hour and a half south from our AirBNB, leaving around 5:30 am ... jet lag for the win.  After this, we parked, and hiked along the coast for 2.5 miles to reach one of 4 green sand beaches in the world!

This is the first view we had of the cove where Papakolea beach is hidden!

We hiked around back of the cove and found our way down the black rocks surrounding it.  One small section had a staircase and rails.

Since we were alone on the beach ... there was sufficient time to set up a tripod and take some pictures!

After our time on the beach, we started back cross-country to the car!

On the hike back out from our BLISSFULLY ALONE time on the beach we started to see tons of folks hiking in.  It was hot and miserable by this point (maybe around 10 am) and we were so grateful we made it there when we did.
